MARKETING MAIL CONTINUES STRONG. FIRST-CLASS STAYS MEDIOCRE
Last week was such a good week…then there’s this week. Not a disaster, I don’t suppose, but when First-Class mail doesn’t come close to 90% on-time, and their target is 95%, it is disappointing. First-Class Mail, generally, has not been performing well for the past few months.
Marketing mail continues to chug along just fine. It is a reliable, predictable channel. Even there, flats vary, but it is generally reliable. Thank goodness.
While First-Class Mail hasn’t exactly fallen off a cliff, it certainly isn’t getting better. First-Class Letters’ on-time percentage has dropped each year for the last three years. From 93.8% in 2021, to 92.3% in 2022, to 91.2% YTD in 2023. And this is after they changed the rules to make it easier to be on time. Not a dramatic drop, but not the right direction.
We’ll be issuing a larger overview of performance over the years in our next newsletter. You can subscribe here: https://snailworks.com/Ext/newsletters.aspx
