FIRST-CLASS MAIL HOLDS AT NEW NORMAL, MARKETING MAIL FLATS STRUGGLE

The Postal Service has indicated that their new goal is to be on time 80% of the time.  By that measure they achieved their goal in most cases.  First-Class flats were only on time about 67% of the time, so they have work to do, but anyone dealing with First-Class flats on a regular basis surely knows the score already.

Marketing Mail continues to lag, which is concerning.  In so many cases, Marketing Mail is just going from one side of the building to the other.   In all of 2024, those on-time averages stayed consistently better than 95%.  Seeing them where they are now is worrisome, because it seems to be a trend.  We certainly hope that there will not be a relaxation of standards for Marketing Mail.  If 20% of that is late, I don’t know where they’ll keep it.

Geographically, there are no obvious delays, with the possible exception of St Louis, MO.  They seem to be showing up on the naughty list more often than not.
